TOPA is the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, a bill that will give tenants in multifamily buildings the first right to buy their home when it goes up for sale. Ask your legislators to support H 1426, S 890 to allow cities and towns the option to:

· Require that sellers of multi-family buildings give tenants the right to make the first offer to purchase

· Require that tenants have the right to match a third-party offer to purchase their homes

· Allow tenants to partner with or assign the purchase right to a non-profit or local housing authority to preserve permanently affordable housing

· Exempt small property owners and establish clear and predictable time frames for TOPA sales

TOPA was actually passed by the legislature in January, only to be vetoed by the Governor. With your help, we can pass it this year!
